His 1988 world title victory over IBF super featheweight champion Rocky Lockridge was so explosive that The Ring Magazine called it "Fight of the Year," and Tony "The Tiger" Lopez was only beginning a memorable stint as one of the top boxers of his era.

 Over the next few years, Lopez would engage in memorable bouts with Julio Cesar Chavez, John John Molina, Greg Haugen, Joey Gamache and numerous others.

 He continues to lead a colorful life in his hometown of Sacramento, California, as the proprietor of Celebrity Bail Bonds.
