Gerry Cooney, legendary heavyweight

February 19th, 2012

Thanks in part to first-round KOs of Ken Norton and Ron Lyle, and a fourth-round TKO of Jimmy Young, Gerry Cooney was ranked No. 53 on The Ring Magazine's list of "The 100 Greatest Punchers of All Time."

"Gentleman Gerry" is best remembered for his valiant 13-round fight with undefeated champion Larry Holmes for the WBC heavyweight crown in 1982 at Caesar's Palace, a bout that preceded a battle with alcohol that curtailed his career.

Cooney discussed all of that and much more on the Feb. 19, 2012 edition of The Ringside Boxing Show. Enjoy this fascinating conversation with a legendary heavyweight.
